A Mother’s Unyielding Determination

EP 7 – A Mother’s Unyielding Determination: Transforming a Dire Prognosis with Mindset and Love

In today’s post, I want to share an incredibly inspiring story about a mother’s unwavering determination, resilience, and the power of mindset. Miriam, a mindset coach, faced one of the most challenging journeys a parent can endure: her daughter Amaya was born at just 27 weeks, weighing a mere 680 grams (1 pound 8 ounces). This tiny miracle faced numerous health challenges, and Miriam’s story is a testament to the strength and love of a mother who refused to accept the dire predictions of doctors and the harsh reality of her circumstances.t goes here

The Early Days: A Fight for Survival

Amaya’s early arrival was due to a severe condition called HELLP syndrome, a life-threatening pregnancy complication characterized by hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count. Miriam experienced excruciating pain and severe symptoms, leading to an emergency C-section. Amaya was so small that she fit into the palm of a hand, and her brain was significantly underdeveloped. Doctors were uncertain about her survival and future development, leaving Miriam in a state of shock and devastation.

Despite the overwhelming odds, Miriam’s love for her daughter fueled her determination. The initial months were filled with constant fear and uncertainty. Amaya spent six months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), battling numerous health issues. At one point, she was given the wrong medication, which caused severe burns in her mouth and esophagus, further complicating her ability to eat.

A Turning Point: The Power of Mindset

During this difficult time, Miriam faced the reality of becoming a special needs mom. However, she refused to accept this as her permanent reality. Drawing on her expertise as a mindset coach, Miriam decided to use her knowledge to change the course of her daughter’s life. She believed in the power of positive affirmations and subconscious programming, especially in young children whose minds are highly impressionable.

Miriam began to speak positive affirmations to Amaya daily. She told her how well she was eating, even when she wasn’t. This wasn’t about lying but about programming a positive outcome. She knew that what she consistently told Amaya would eventually become her reality. Miriam’s relentless positivity and belief in her daughter’s potential began to manifest in small but significant improvements.

Overcoming Challenges: From Feeding Tubes to Eating Independently

At four months old, Amaya had to undergo surgery for a feeding tube, a decision that was heart-wrenching for Miriam. However, this intervention was necessary for her survival. Once stabilized, the real work began. Miriam worked tirelessly with six different therapists, covering speech, physical, and occupational therapy. Each day was a battle, but Miriam’s determination never wavered.

Miriam’s approach was not just about therapy but about creating an environment of positivity and belief. She told Amaya every day that she was eating well and getting better. Slowly but surely, Amaya began to accept food. It started with tiny amounts of strong-flavored foods like coffee creamer and peppermint ice cream, which eventually led to more substantial meals.

A Miracle Unfolds: Amaya’s Transformation

After countless hours of therapy and unwavering support from her mother, Amaya began to eat more regularly. Her development, which had been a significant concern, began to catch up. Three weeks before her fourth birthday, Amaya had her feeding tube removed. She transitioned into a normal school environment, developmentally on par with her peers, and continues to thrive.

Miriam attributes this incredible transformation to her belief in the power of mindset and positive programming. She emphasizes that while the journey was long and challenging, the results were worth every moment of struggle. Amaya’s story is a powerful example of how a mother’s love, combined with the right mindset, can overcome seemingly insurmountable odds.

The Takeaway: Believe in the Impossible

Miriam’s story is more than just a personal victory; it’s a message to all parents facing similar challenges. It’s a testament to the power of belief, the importance of a positive mindset, and the incredible strength found in a mother’s love. Miriam teaches us that no matter how dire the situation may seem, we have the power to change our reality by focusing on the outcome we desire.

Miriam’s journey with Amaya reminds us that doctors and experts do not have the final say in our lives. While their opinions and treatments are crucial, the power of a positive mindset and unwavering belief can create miracles. This story is an inspiration to all, showing that with determination, positivity, and love, we can overcome the toughest challenges and create the life we envision for ourselves and our loved ones.

In conclusion, Miriam’s story is a testament to the transformative power of a mother’s love, positive reinforcement, and unwavering belief. It serves as a beacon of hope for families facing similar challenges. Remember, you are not alone on this journey.  Seek support from your loved ones and within your community.
